Dental Care Professional (DCP) Management allows dental practices to accurately set up and manage non-dentist clinicians within the system. CareStack helps streamline the process of categorising and detailing the roles of various DCPs, which is crucial for compliant NHS Claim submissions. This article will guide you through the steps to properly configure DCPs in CareStack and submit NHS Claims efficiently, ensuring accuracy and reducing administrative burden.
In CareStack, clinicians with any speciality other than ‘Dentist’ are considered DCPs.

Set Up a DCP
Here’s how to set up a DCP in CareStack:
- Navigate to the System Menu > select Practice Settings > Administration > Users.
- Choose the required clinician.
- In the User Details slide-out that appears, select the Clinician Details tab.
- Ensure the clinician is tagged to the appropriate DCP Speciality from the following list:
- Dental Therapists
- Dental Hygienists
- Clinical Dental Technicians
- Orthodontic Therapists
- Dental Technicians, and
- Dental Nurses
- The clinician should also have the following NHS details entered:
- GDC Number
- NHS Number
- Personal ID
- Personal PIN
- In case any of the above have not been entered, click Edit.
- Make the necessary changes and click Save.
Submit an NHS Claim
To submit an NHS claim,
- Search for the patient using the Global Search Bar.
- Click the Chart quick link.
- The NHS Claim section will appear at the bottom.
- Click Submit Claim.
- In the Claim Submission pop-up that appears, choose the required Contract, Clinician, Dental Care Professional, and other necessary fields under Claim Details.
- During NHS Claim submission, DCPs from the following specialities can act as clinicians:
- Dental Therapist
- Dental Hygienist
- Clinical Dental Technician
- These 3 specialities can open a CoT (Course of Treatment) as per the NHS Direct Access Rules. You can find Clinicians from these 3 specialities in the Clinician dropdown in the Claim Form.
- On the other hand, any of the 3 above-mentioned specialities as well as Dental Nurse DCPs, can be chosen as an assisting DCP in the Dental Care Professional dropdown.
Note: It is important to identify whether you submit claims as an assisting DCP or are able to submit claims acting as a clinician to ensure successful claim submission.
- Fill in the other fields, if necessary.
- Once done, click Submit Claim.
