A prescription is an official document from a healthcare practitioner that authorises a pharmacist to dispense any specific medication based on the patient's health condition. If the medication you need is not listed when searching for it, you can enter a new medication into the system from the patient overview page and practice settings.

From Patient Overview
To add a prescription from the Patient Overview:
- Select the patient using the Global Patient Search Bar > click Overview.
- Click the + Presc. quick link.
- Click + Paper Prescription.
- Click the drop-down menu in the Select Medication.
- You can add a new medication to the system by clicking + Add New Medication to System.
A pop-up will appear, and fields with a red asterisk must be filled in.
- Enter or select the necessary information.
- Click Save.
A toast notification will appear on the top right stating, 'Medication added successfully'.
Now the newly added medication will be available under the Select Medication drop-down.
From Practice Settings
You would be able to choose medications from the dropdown in the patient overview as you create a prescription in the Practice Settings.
To add a prescription from the Practice Settings:
Navigate to the System Menu > select Practice Settings > Prescriptions > Medications.
- Click on + Add Medication.

Enter the following information:
- Medication Name (Generic Name)*: Enter the name of this medication.
- Description: Enter a description for the use of this medication if needed.
- Allergies: Select any allergies that may conflict with taking this medication.
- Dosage Form: Choose whether this medication should be dispensed as a tablet, aerosol, ointment, etc.
- Default Sig: Enter the default instructions for taking this medication.
- Default Days: Enter the default number of days for taking this medication.
- Default Qty: Enter the default quantity that should be dispensed when prescribing this medication.
- Default Refill: Enter the default number of refills available when prescribing this medication.
- Medication Type: Select whether this is a Controlled Substance or an Over-the-counter medication.
- Additional Notes: Enter any additional notes you deem necessary.
- Click Save.
A toast notification will appear on the top right stating, 'Medication added successfully'.
